intimacy and trinity

"The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, and the love of God, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all!" —2 Corinthians 13:13

When we awoke this morning, many of us began the day in a most appropriate way by making the sign of the cross and proclaiming: "In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit." When we went to Mass, we began "in the name of the Father, and of the Son, and of the Holy Spirit." Then the Mass, the day, and our lives continued with multiple references to the Trinity. We are a Trinitarian people. We are baptized in, immersed in the Trinity (Mt 28:19).

We are so preoccupied with the Trinity because we love God, and God has revealed to us that He is Trinity. When we love someone, we want to know and love him or her as he or she is. We would be broken-hearted if we could never love a spouse or a child as they are. This would prevent us from loving them deeply and intimately.

Because of our human limitations, of ourselves we cannot know God as He is and love Him deeply and intimately. However, the Lord has revealed Himself to us as Trinity. He has become incarnate, continued His incarnate presence in the Church, given Himself to us in Holy Communion, and made our bodies His dwelling place. Because the Trinity has revealed Himself to us in His awesome plan of salvation, we can love God deeply as He is. This intimacy is the reason we have been created. Praise the Holy Trinity!

Prayer:  Jesus, as I pray before You, the Blessed Sacrament, renew my baptism in the Holy Spirit, Who will guide me to the truth of the Trinity (see Jn 16:13).

Promise:  "Yes, God so loved the world that He gave His only Son, that whoever believes in Him may not die but may have eternal life." —Jn 3:16

Praise:  "Glory to the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit as it was in the beginning, is now, and ever shall be world without end. Amen"
