What are Discipleship Retreats?

Fr. Al Lauer, founder of Presentation Ministries and the Discipleship Retreats, strove to carry out the vision given to him during a private retreat here. The vision is as follows:

"To stop abortion, save lives, restore families, evangelize young people, and build a new civilization of love, we need mature Christians, healed and deeply rooted in the imitation of Jesus. For a new world, we need new people, who have received a new formation. The Holy Spirit will pour out the grace of Christian maturity on all those open to His will."

Fr. Lauer developed the Discipleship Retreats and the "40 day" program as an opportunity for people to receive healing and be formed as disciples of Jesus through study of the Church's teachings and the Bible in the context of the Sacraments and Christian community. These disciples are then called to go forth and make disciples of all nations (Mt 28:19) and form a new "civilization of love" (Pope Paul VI).

Fr. Al has since passed on to his heavenly reward but the atmosphere of the Discipleship Retreat Center still reflects the quiet simplicity of his life ordered by God. Visitors may experience a holy ambience in the rural surroundings, regular prayer life, simple meals, and much opportunity for silence.

Eucharistic liturgies, prayer, teaching, and meals take place in the Discipleship Center, which houses the little Chapel of Our Lady of Guadalupe. Other facilities include a farmhouse, rustic cabins for hardy campers, and a limited number of RV hookups. Motels are located in nearby towns.

The new Our Lady of Guadalupe Chapel is still under construction. When completed it will include guest rooms and classroom facilities.
