OFF-SHORE DRILLING

"Put out into deep water and lower your nets for a catch." —Luke 5:4

Everyone wants to put out into deep water and see God do a miracle. Here we meet Jesus and hear His special calling for our lives. But before He told Simon to "put out into deep water," the Lord told him "to pull out a short distance from the shore" (Lk 5:3). Here we are separated from the network of activities which gives us security and keeps us busy. Off-shore we have nothing to do but listen to Jesus teach us. A retreat can be an off-shore experience. Or it may be a long drive by yourself, a lonely evening at home, a long wait at the doctor's office, or the three days before you get the TV fixed. Off-shore we have time to hear Jesus. This off-shore drilling is a prerequisite for putting out into deep water. We must give ourselves a time of preparation to receive special revelations of Jesus' power and glory.

Prayer: Father, may I give myself enough time with You.
Promise: "All things are yours, whether it be Paul, or Apollos, or Cephas, or the world, or life, or death, or the present, or the future: all these are yours." —1 Cor 3:21-22
Praise: Katie prays the rosary as she walks to work.
