Hello, I am Jerry Cappel, one of the directors of Presentation Ministries
On behalf of myself, Mr. George Schmidl, Brother James, and those of us here from Presentation Ministries, and the Brother's of Pentecost, we want to thank God for many people here today:
1) First of all, Mrs. Lauer, truly you have been blessed. The fruit of your womb has touched so many lives. In the last several months, I know you have suffered right along with Father Al as you prayed by his bedside, cried for him, and loved him. All those present to witness a mother's love were truly blessed to see such expressions of the deepest love between two people. Brother James, George, and I want to thank you, your son Ed, and your daughter Christina for giving us a wonderful prophet, shepherd, evangelist, and priest ..... Fr. Albert E. Lauer.
2) I want to also express my deep and sincere appreciation to you Archbishop Pilarczyk for the faith and support you showed Fr. Al in all the ministries and works he dedicated his life to. My prayer is that Presentation Ministries and the Brothers of Pentecost will continue to growth and flourish under your care and continued support. I pray also for the St. Peter Claver school, for Old St. Mary's parish, and all those associated with the Old St. Mary’s Pregnancy Center that the work of Jesus will continue through these holy faithful people.
3) Thanks to all the clergy, religious, and the lay faithful gathered here today. Fr. Al was sustained greatly by your prayers, sacrifices, and undying beautiful expressions of love that were so often given to him. As you know, Fr. Al truly dedicated his life to the service of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Savior. He was tireless in his efforts to serve others and to bring them to a closer relationship with Jesus Christ. Everything he did was done for the benefit of the Catholic Church which is confirmed by the spread of his teachings in the One Bread One Body booklets to over 20 countries, by his radio programs, the bible institute, and the bible college to name a few. He loved the Church and gave his life to her. He saw the potential of our youth as a antidote to the culture of death.
As a preacher and teacher, Fr. Al accumulated many stories of his experiences and I would like to share one of those stories with you. Early in his priesthood, after a mass, he was approached by a women wanting to voice her dislike for his homilies. Father politely inquired about her dissatisfaction. She responded "Father Al, it seems that all you ever talk about is Jesus. It's always the same with you, Jesus this and Jesus that. Jesus ... Jesus... Jesus!" Fr. Al kindly thanked her and said it was the best compliment he had ever received.
Anyone who knew Fr. Al knows that this occasion (his death) is one of complete happiness and celebration for him. Father wanted to go to heaven. In telling us about his cancer, Fr. Al said "the worst thing that could happen to me is that I would be cured". Father did not fear death because he had great faith, trust, and love for Jesus Christ. Father Al was as close to the Lord as anyone I had ever met. He never missed receiving the Eucharist from the time of his first Holy Communion until his death except for illness. What a statement that is!
Fr. Al was a very humble man. His teachings were so powerful because everything he said or for that matter, everything he did he backed it up by scripture, the Catechism of the Catholic Church, or the writings of the Popes. Therefore, I would like to end this remembrance with a litany of scriptures that he taught and followed. I think that would put a smile on Fr. Al's face and in a very real way, sum up Fr. Al's life - what a wonderful witness he was for Jesus here on earth.
NOTE: All these readings were taken from the Revised Standard Version – Catholic edition
Luke 9:23-26 - And he said to all, "If any man would come after me, let him deny himself and take up his cross daily and follow me". For whoever would save his life will lose it; and whoever loses his life for my sake; he will save it. For what does it profit a man if he gains the whole world and loses or forfeits himself? For whoever is ashamed of me and my words, of him will the Son of man be ashamed when he comes in his glory to the Father and of the holy angels.
Luke 18:22 - And when Jesus heard it, he said to him, "One thing you still lack. Sell all that you have and distribute to the poor, and you will have treasure in heaven; and come, follow me."
Luke 4:18-19 – “The spirit of the Lord is upon me, because he has anointed me to preach good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim release to the captives and recovering of sight to the blind, to set at liberty those who are oppressed, to proclaim the acceptable year of the Lord.”
Mark 16:15-16 - And he said to them "Go into all the world and preach the gospel to the whole creation. He who believes and is baptized will be saved; but he who does not believe will be condemned"
Acts 13:3 - Then after fasting and praying they laid their hands on them and sent them off.
Acts 2:42 - And they devoted themselves to the apostles teaching and fellowship, to the breaking of bread and the prayers.
Romans 10:9 "Because if you confess with your lips that Jesus is Lord and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved".
John 14:1-2 "Let not your hearts be troubled; believe in God, believe also in me. In my Father's house are many rooms; if it were not so, would I have told you that I go to prepare a place for you?"
Luke 23:42-43 - And he said, "Jesus, remember me when you come into your kingly power." And he said to him, "Truly, I say to you, today you will be with me in Paradise".
Thank you God for sending to us Father Albert E. Lauer. I pray that he is with you and your Angels forever.
