"I am the good shepherd. A good shepherd lays down his life for the sheep." - John 10:11
Our community was one of several communities initiated by Fr. Bozung, our pastor at Assumption BVM parish, in the summer of 1995. All potential leaders began formation by viewing a series of Fr. Lauer's video lectures on community, and ended by participating in a "Life in the Spirit Seminar". We have been meeting regularly (weekly) since then and our membership has fluctuated between fourteen and eight individuals at any given time.
Our community is currently comprised of one married couple, four widows, and three married individuals whose spouses do not yet belong to the community. Most of us are retired and in our sixties & seventies. We meet every Wednesday evening from 7pm to 9pm beginning with general prayer (including intentions voiced by each member) followed by the rosary, songs of praise, a psalm reading, a teaching, and light refreshments. Most of us attend daily Mass together.
As a community we are active in the Respect Life movement, supporting Life activities in our parish as well as in the larger community. Also, individual members are active as Extraordinary Ministers of Communion, Lectors, RCIA teachers, and in various menís & womenís groups.
Home based community has highlighted our Baptismal responsibility as brothers & sisters in Christ, and has provided a means of caring support for one another. It has also brought us to a better understanding of our Faith as well as a more intimate knowledge of the Bible.
